The main interpretation of the image can be confidently called the desire for freedom, and sometimes such a body adornment is identified with the freedom of thoughts and feelings. In some variants of the tattoo means aggression. When choosing such a sketch, you should also take into account that a certain sense is hidden in the gladiator's facial expression, especially if you have chosen a portrait image, the pose of the heroic character, the details of the figure and the overall design are important.

Tattoos for men

Such images on the male body not only beautifully emphasize the muscle relief, but also demonstrate the fearlessness of the owner, his desire to be free and the desire for independence. Photo

A small photo review of gladiator tattoos in different styles and directions, from realistic with quality details to classic in black and white but no less stunning.

Spartacus with a sword in front of Spartacus Stadium

Tattoo Spartacus

Not so long ago the theme of the gladiator movement in Rome became massively used in cinema, and after the release of the stunning film with Russell Crowe as Spartacus, images of this hero became very popular as tattoos. Spartacus became famous for his unwavering pursuit of freedom and justice. Sketches depicting this historical hero also often symbolize similar qualities and character traits of his master.

Gladiator with armor

Not infrequently, as sketches can be found not only images with gladiators or their portrait, but also all kinds of details of ammunition or weapons. In this case, the symbolism of the tattoo changes slightly. In most cases, a wrist drawing in the form of gladiator armor is the choice of courageous individuals who know how to use weapons or related to the martial arts. For example, the armor on the shoulder acts as protection against trouble. Sketches with weapons, armor and helmet demonstrate a willingness to defend their ideals.

The choice of the sketch and the place of application

The basis of the plot tattoo with a gladiator can make up:

  • a particular screen hero in the image of a Hollywood actor;
  • gladiator in an armor with a closed visor;
  • the moment of the battle with a lion;
  • gladiator's helmet;
  • armor on arm and leg life-size;
  • a gladiator with a sword in his hands;
  • a fighter with a defeated opponent under his feet;
  • portrait of the owner of the tattoo in the armor of an ancient Roman warrior;
  • a combination of a gladiator and an angel.

When the gladiator is depicted with his visor open, it is important to draw a facial expression to convey the fighter's determination to come out victorious.

This is interesting

Tattoo gladiator armor with a helmet, shoulder pads and a shield will act as a talisman if you choose the place of application on the forearm or the feet.

***

To the choice of the master should be approached responsibly, because partak tattoo gladiator looks comical. To correct such a plot is very difficult. People who are not ready to take responsibility for their decisions, such a tattoo is not suitable. If a man or girl understands that they lack fortitude, they can make a stunning gladiator tattoo.. It will help them follow their dreams, sweeping away obstacles in their way.

Gladiator in the arena

Sketches of the gladiator tattoo in the arena often show the moment of the fight with the enemy, and depending on the chosen technique are able to convey in detail the state and actions of the participants in the fight. Such pictures are characterized by a variety of related details. There are also sketches in which the gladiator is depicted in the arena before or after the fight. Such drawings can mean the desire for victory and fearlessness, or a kind of doom and hope.

Historical Facts

In Latin the word "gladiator" is translated as "swordsman". Gladiators were the name of the specially trained fighters who took part in the spectacular battles. Bloodthirsty battles first appeared in ancient Rome and in the territory of Sparta as early as 106 B.C. At first, gladiators were slaves, criminals and prisoners of war sentenced to death. They were trained in a special school and each of them was taught a certain type of combat. These could be fights on horseback, fights with animals or people, with or without weapons.

At first, gladiatorial fights were held only on feast days in honor of Mars, the god of war. But soon the bloodthirsty public was so captivated by the thrilling spectacle that the battles became a common entertainment. The interest in them was also fueled by the fact that a victorious gladiator not only received a considerable cash reward, but could also buy his life in this way. Gradually the former slaves were replaced by ordinary Spartans wishing to earn extra money and gain unprecedented fame.

Woman Warrior Tattoo

In 63 A.D., Emperor Nero allowed women to take part in gladiatorial fights. A.D. 89 was marked by the fact that the then ruler Domitian issued a decree allowing dwarfs to participate in battles. Despite the fact that the gladiator had a helmet, armor and shield, it was almost impossible to avoid a fatal outcome. Scenes of violence when a lion tore a man apart in front of an enthusiastic audience caused anger and indignation among Christians. In 404 the gladiatorial fights were officially cancelled by Emperor Honorius.

Image of a lion and a warrior on her shoulder

Gladiator with a lion

No less impressive example of a gladiator style tattoo can be safely called a picture of a gladiator with a lion. Among the most common options is the drawing of a tired and wounded gladiator, standing majestically over the fallen animal, which symbolizes the victory. Also very impressive are sketches depicting moments of battle between a fearless warrior and a ferocious predator. Such drawings can symbolize the eternal struggle of inner feelings and emotions of the owner, his denial of what is happening.

A bit of history

Gladiator tattoos like no other have a close connection to the history of ancient Rome.

The ancient times, when the audience swooned on the stone steps of the Colosseum in anticipation of deadly battles of fearless warriors, will forever remain a subject of admiration and praise. The Colosseum gathered all the inhabitants of the mighty Roman Empire. On the specially arranged fields, fearless gladiator slaves lost their lives and shed blood. They were rewarded for their victory with freedom and the chance to become the best in this life.

According to historical sources, warriors did not have a standard set of armor and other ammunition. The will of the emperor was decisive and in many ways the lives of gladiator slaves depended on it.

The Colosseum with a gladiator

In recent times, it is increasingly possible to meet the original images on the body of monuments of architecture, and the Colosseum can be confidently attributed to their number. Such a structure was the arena for gladiatorial fights, and today the "ancient stadium" in the tattoo can mean courage and loyalty. And also similar sketches are the choice of history lovers. Often the Colosseum tattoo is accompanied by images of a gladiator, which in a duet can show a certain reflection of the inner "I" and mean fearlessness and the desire to win the victory at any cost.

Sketches

Sometimes it is not easy to make a final choice of a drawing and determine the technique. Initially, we should start from the fact whether there are on your body previously applied tattoos and their style. If this fact exists, then we should think about a harmonious combination of drawings and choose the appropriate technique.

The most difficult and at the same time simple option is considered realism. In order to perform the sketches in a similar direction, the master must have an artistic talent, because the essence of the realistic tattoo is the maximum transfer of image subtleties. Also to similar kinds of tattoos can be attributed drawings, printed in the technique of thrash polka. Sketches are slightly different in design and more reminiscent of clippings from magazines and newspapers of the 80s.

An equally in-demand technique is the graphic, which is a black and white image that resembles redrawing a photo with a pencil.

A Spartacus fan has a portrait of Carrera on his shoulder. He has a rhombus on his chest and Starostin on the other shoulder.

We found out why he did it.

On November 10, three weeks after Massimo Carrera was fired, photographer Yevgeny Feldman (he shot Alexei Navalny's presidential campaign, the 2016 US elections, and the Ukrainian events of 2014-2015: Maidan, Donetsk, Crimea, and Odessa) wrote on Facebook that someone had tattooed his picture. The photo shows Carrera's face tattooed on his shoulder.

Alexander Golovin talked to Feldman, found the owner of the tattoo and found out how much time and money he spent on the tattoo. And why he needed it at all.

"I've been a Spartak fan since 1996. It's like I remember now: I'm 10 years old, I'm at my grandmother's, the kid needs something to entertain him. We opened the playbill, I see CSKA vs. Spartak, and I point my finger: "Here!". We went to Dinamo Stadium, bought tickets, and on the way there I knew very well that I would be rooting for Spartak. It wasn't a deliberate choice, it just happened. I've been a season ticket holder since 2006, and I always go to the fan club. I'm not part of an association, we just have a group of friends," says Kirill, who asks not to show his face. He explains that he got the tattoo for himself, he does not understand where the interest came from, and he believes that the photo is definitely unnecessary.

Kirill is 32 years old and is tall, about two meters tall. He is powerful and bald. He is dressed in smart casual and works in the legal department of an insurance company.

- How did you come up with the idea to hit Massimo in the first place?

- Considering that this is not my first tattoo (I have Nikolai Petrovich Starostin and many others on my right shoulder), I had been thinking about getting something else for a long time. Especially since there is already a tattoo on this arm, you should have finished the sleeve, done the whole thing. Someone sees a picture, he likes it, and he gets it. I have a different way of doing it: the image must be born inside, so that the soul is there. I must honestly say: before I fired him, I did not think to hit Massimo. Everything was formed after his dismissal and the way it looked. If the management had handled the situation differently, saying goodbye to the man as it should have been, not the fact that Carrera would have appeared on the shoulder.

Plus it was influenced by the way he behaved in contrast to the club. I mean, he could have just unraveled the whole management. He could bombard them in such a way that they would forget about all the other Russian clubs for a year and they would talk only about that theme. He obviously has something to say. But he kept silent. And he acted like a man. I do not know how to explain in more detail, but I just feel close to his human qualities: honesty, loyalty to the place where he works, that he never tries to shift the blame on another person. Those qualities and the fact that he made us champions for the first time in 16 years somehow shaped the idea of making a tattoo of him.

Carrera was fired on October 22. Three days later, Kirill turned to photographer Yevgeny Feldman, a Spartak fan who had been taking pictures of the team and coach throughout the championship season, and afterwards released an album with the main pictures in a total circulation of 1,100 copies.

"I can't say I was directly surprised by his message," Feldman says. - When Carrera was fired, there was a new surge of orders for albums about the championship. And with Massimo's picture on the cover. There were only 30-40 of them left - they were sold out in a few days. And even half of the ones without the coach on the cover. A guy just at that moment wrote in his Twitter feed that he was looking for a close-up portrait of Carrera, he was going to get a tattoo. I thought it was funny. My pictures have never been tattooed."

Eugene Feldman

Kirill says that initially he wanted as close-up as possible: "I have many tattoos, and I know what kind of sketch a master needs: close-up, without blurry details. The background is a minimum, the face a maximum. And I am subscribed to Zhenya on Twitter and Instagram. I know what he does, I know he took photos of Massimo in his championship year. That's why I didn't even google anything. I just tweeted to Zhenya straight away, asking if he could share the picture. He kindly agreed. And he threw out some options.

Feldman recalls that after that request he went through all the pictures with the coach - Carrera with the cup, on the bench, before the match, with the fans - and selected the eight most successful and framed ones - made them larger than they really were. "The most pictures with Massimo are from Perm, when the breakthrough happened on the field, the team was celebrating the championship with the fans. At the very beginning, a guy in a hoodie ran up to Carrere and hugged him, jabbing him on the shoulder. It's

," explained Feldman. - But he chose a different one. Speaking of portraits, you couldn't find a better one. This is the only picture I have of Carrera standing with his coat collar up, which adds to the Commando look. I think it's the most distinctive one I have."

The photographer took this shot in April of the champion season in Moscow before the match with Orenburg. The same photo is one of the versions

of the champion's album. Kirill has it, but with an alternative cover, it shows fans: "I wanted to order the cup or Carrera, but I didn't have time to order it - everything was sold out. There were only the fans left. I didn't look at the album after I decided to get a tattoo. When I decided that I would give Massimo a tattoo, I realized that I needed a picture. The next link in the chain is Zhenya Feldman."

Kirill chose the final option out of the eight offered in a day: "This picture was especially good. There was not even any doubt."

***

The tattoo was applied to my shoulder for five hours in one session. It was done by a longtime acquaintance of a fan - at that moment she had a discount on portraits, and the tattoo only cost five thousand rubles. The photo cost zero rubles. "I didn't even ask about it. I make money with photography, but in the case of a tattoo, it seems strange to pay money," says Evgeny Feldman.

Kirill shows me a screenshot of a message: "Do I owe you something for the work? The photographer replied, "A picture of the tattoo."

***

In addition to Carrera and Starostin, Kirill has two other tattoos associated with Spartak: a rhombus on his chest and a "fan theme" on his sleeve under Starostin.

The fan explains that he makes tattoos for himself to capture life moments, emotions and experiences: "They are chosen by heart. What's close to you should be. My son's name is tattooed on my biceps and on my other arm - Nikolai Petrovich. That's the basis of my life. Massimo in particular is indescribably happy for the first time in 16 years. I just remember celebrating the 2001 championship. They beat the bums 3-1, I turned off the TV: "Oh, cool, the champions. And for 16 years I was in a knee-jerk pose. Now I understand what the homeless people in Ramenskoye felt in 2007. It's those emotions that leave a mark in the soul. It's for myself, not to defy society. It doesn't mean that I'm going to walk around my whole life in an alkie t-shirt, like the emo boys. They tattoo exactly below the sleeve, so you can see there's a tattoo, and there's nothing where the T-shirt is anymore."

The powerful response to the tattoo photo on social media amazed Kirill: "I posted it and ##### [was] surprised that I got 150 likes in the 40 minutes I drove from the master to my home. I thought that 10-15 people would like it, but it flew to the masses. Now I have 330 likes. The reaction was, "Are you crazy?" A completely trivial thing: just a tattoo with a person who played a role in the life of your club - and there's such a resonance. I think if this were in England, I wouldn't be sitting here with you. There, it's not a bummer to pound on a soccer club and people from the club. I'm sure there are fans who are now pounding on the dead club president. There is nothing scandalous about that - he made their club the champion. And Carrera can be beaten up for the mere fact of being champion. This is the emotion I have been waiting for 16 years. 16 fucking years.

- What did people write to you after the photo was published?

- In the comments to the tweet, 90% wrote that I was cool. 10% said ####### [stupid]: horses, bums. I'm okay with that. If I posted a neutral tattoo with khokhloma, which is a symbol of Russia, I would still be written that #######. There's just a category of people who don't like tattoos: "How is it possible, paint under the skin? Even if everyone through one wrote that I'm #######, it wouldn't change anything. A tattoo is like sex, deeply personal. It's a topic that no one else but you should care about a priori.

- Do you know any other people who have stuffed Massimo?

- I have not heard. But in general, I'm sure that there are horses who beat Grigory Fedotov. I often see Yashin at the speakers. In the summer, I saw somewhere that Britische pecked around his ribs before the tournament, that England was the 2018 World Champion, and the cup. And then a month later - the cup is crossed out and the inscription "Failed."

***

I ask Kirill if there are any other football-themed tattoos in his thoughts, he says there are no such plans: "There is a desire to tattoo something, but that doesn't mean that I just sit and think. The urge of the soul must come from within. If Kononov takes the gold, strips to the waist, climbs on a groupie and yells "A tutti! Avanti! Massimo Carrera!", I might beat him up.

- You said in the beginning that you are close to Carrera's human qualities. But he is full of claims: a million from Fedun, which he did not immediately share with the staff, fired Dr. Liu and the bus driver, the conflict with Pilipchuk, the story with Glushakov, which he does not disclose, but hints that Denis is a traitor, whitewashing himself. It is believed that Massimo works hard on his image, but in fact he is a slippery man.

- You see, I don`t think that Carrera is a saint. When people think that a person is a saint, they are beating Christ. There is no such thing as a saint in principle. And I quite accept that Carrera fired the driver. Really fired Liu. Squeezed himself that million. Although we will never know, it's all a rumor. And that is not the point. It's just the sincerity that comes from the man. And all these backstabbing stories exist in any club, and there are faults on every side.

You said about a million. And they also write that he stayed because of the one million forfeit. He didn't leave on his own, but waited to be fired to get it paid. Well, wouldn't you have stayed? You know it's easy and beautiful to say that you would leave. But imagine the situation: you're sitting with kids, a wife, a mortgage. On a salary that allows you to support your family. The boss turns out to be a faggot. Would you leave? No, you're gonna sit there and eat everything. And he not only ate, he worked. Yeah, it didn't work, but he didn't sling mud. He didn't open up conflicts. None of this would have come out if it wasn't for the likes and the bathhouse video. And no one would have found out anything, all the more the situation with Glushakov was last season. I know for a fact that it all started when Glushakov sent ##### Carrera in front of the team in training at the beginning of last season. The person who informed me would not lie. This information is first hand.

I understand that Massimo is not perfect. And there were flaws in his work. But our opinion about people is formed based on personal perception. It so happens that at Spartak there is no feedback from the club at all. We have no communication with the outside world. You are based on your own worldview. And fans are like that: we live more with our hearts than with our heads. You choose your team as a child not with your head, like in a store. But with your heart - whatever's closer to you. And my personal opinion is that Carrera is cool.

In addition to sincerity he has a great inner culture. He knew very well what they write about him, surely an interpreter told him. He could reply like Yakin did to Zhuravel (quote: "Your opinion does not interest anyone" - Sports.ru). But he didn`t do it. And also such a little touch to Massimo's portrait: the press conference was held the day after the horses were run over on the escalator in Rome. The man comes to the press conference and in one of his first words he wishes the health of the injured fans. To the fans of that club who put up the banner that Carrera killed two people. He could at least have kept quiet about it - he would not have been told a word. But he remembered. You can't play that. It's not an image. I think that Fedun doesn't know about the situation in Rome at all. And here a man who does not surf Russian-language sites saw it and said so.

Another thing: after Carrera was sacked all the veterans spoke out. Of course, people are entitled to their opinion. But what did Karrera do when asked about the team? He stopped any talk with one phrase: "I am Spartak's past. You can say that this is image work. But the man voiced that he was the past of the club and did not want to get in the way of the new coach. Although he could have bought a ticket through the website and come to the same fan base and say goodbye to people. But he didn't. You see, you can come out of every iron, and you can do it this way.

Where to get a tattoo

Such an image most often adorns the shoulder area or back. Such areas of the body allow you to apply volumetric drawings and the best way to convey the intended plot. No less often the gladiator tattoo is located on the arm, shoulder blade or side. It is also possible to decorate with sketches in a similar style shin, thigh or calf. Drawings can be portrait, can depict the hero in full growth and show moments of real battles. All sorts of gladiator attributes are also very much in demand.

To create a more detailed notion of the tattoos with the image of a gladiator, we offer readers to look at the photo review of a variety of designs and techniques proposed below. And also we remind you that each tattoo has its own interpretations by representatives of the underworld, which should definitely be taken into account when choosing a drawing.

To the sophisticated cheerleaders.

Men can afford those tattoos "Spartak Moscow", which only want, but as for the girls, you need to pay special attention to the style. After all, a crude tattoo can cause negative emotions in people. For a girl, it is best to choose a light inscription and make it in a beautiful thin script. Examples of inscriptions:

  • I root for Spartak.
  • Red and white, forward!
  • People's team.
  • Spartacists.

Tattoo on the leg

Such inscriptions can be placed on the back (just below the neck), arm or leg, on the waist or other areas of the body. As for pictures and emblems, the best preference is not exactly the emblem of the club, but, for example, to put a picture of a Spartan. This will not only look beautiful on your skin, but will also become a coded message that not everyone can understand. But it is in a soccer environment such a tattoo will be understandable.
