Depicting these or other symbols, few people think about their meaning. Today we will talk about the marks or signs of Satan. Satan, the devil, Beelzebub, the evil one - the designation of the same character in different cultures and religions. As a rule, Satan is the main adversary of the higher powers, the concentration of evil, the antagonist.
The first classic mention of Satan belongs to the Old Testament texts, where he in the guise of a serpent induced Eve to try the fruit of knowledge. As for the prototypes of the prince of darkness - virtually every pagan culture has a supernatural concentration of all that is bad and dark in one character. Such an absolute is the prototype of the biblical devil.
In the myths, culture, and religion of the peoples of the world
This mythological creature opposes God. Therefore, the tattoo of Satan can mean the opposition or struggle with the modern foundations of society. Satan is called by different names in various references, but his essence is the same - the lord of hell and evil forces.
His story is marked by many facets and the many deeds of this mythical creature. It was he who seduced the first people Adam and Eve into sin. He appeared before them in the form of a serpent and persuaded them to violate the rules of God. Therefore his image is used as a barrier to achieving the great goal.
However, the devil did not stop there in the Bible mentions that he tried to seduce Jesus to sin, but he failed. The Savior of the human race withstood all temptations and defeated death, and people through his great act were able to find hope in eternal life.
It is believed that Satan, aka Lucifer or the great tempter, commands demons, demons and devils. Sometimes, however, he manages to present himself as an angel, so the wise advise to watch the deeds and not to believe the words. But in the Bible everything is already predetermined - Michael the Archangel is destined to defeat Satan twice and to send him to the earth into the fiery hell on eternal imprisonment.
Symbols of Satanism
An inverted pentagram
The most famous symbol of Satanism is the inverted pentagram. But many representatives of Satanism don't know its history.
The pentagram is a figure with five-point symmetry, which is not found in inanimate nature. This is a very ancient symbol. Its first images date back to the 7th century BC. As the simplest unicursal star, the pentagram can be drawn in ten different strokes.
Occultists believe that the writing of the pentagram depends on its properties: drawn clockwise star has a creative nature, counterclockwise - destructive, it symbolizes the death of our world. In terms of mathematics, the five-pointed star is the geometric expression of the golden ratio due to the dimensionality of its angles.
Satanism often refers to a destructive type of pentagram. Satanism interprets this symbol as the superiority of the material over the immaterial. The flesh is greater than the spirit.
The pentagram is often used in occult rites and practices to invoke Satan.
Inverted Cross
The inverted cross is a symbol of extreme disrespect for the Christian religion. This powerful sign is also used in various rituals and ceremonies to invoke demons.
However, the upside-down cross was used by the apostle Peter for his crucifixion. He did not consider himself worthy to die "the death of his Lord Jesus Christ," so he ordered the cross to be turned upside down. The cross of the apostle Peter is not to be confused with Satan's upside down cross.
This symbol of Satanism is also called the cross of disorder.
The number of the beast 666
The number of the beast 666 is a special magical symbol first mentioned in the New Testament. It conceals the name of the beast of the Apocalypse, the Antichrist. In studies of this symbol a mistake is often made: breaking it into three sixes, which is unacceptable, since the symbol itself is exactly the number "six hundred and sixty-six".
Another misinterpretation is the interpretation of the number of the beast as a correct fraction of 2/3, expressed in decimal representation, that is, an infinite periodic fraction of 0.666...
In ancient times names were often encrypted by numbers, so it is possible that the biblical expression "...he who has a mind to count the number of the beast, for the number is human; his number is six hundred and sixty-six" is not an allegory, but indeed a coded name. Based on this, a large number of historians and theologians began to search for the solution to the name encrypted by the number 666.
German theologians are inclined to that the name "Nero Caesar" (emperor Nero) is ciphered by this number as the numerological sum of letters of the name in Latin writing gives 666. In favor of this theory is the fact that, according to one version, the number of the beast is not 666, but 616 (it is indicated in some ancient records). But the name "Nero Caesar" written in a different handwriting also gives the number 616.
According to another version, the encrypted name is the name of the ruler Domitian. The evidence for this, besides the coincidence of the sum of the positions of the letters with the number of the beast, is that it was during Domitian's lifetime that the book of Revelation was written.
There are many other versions and theories linking the name of the beast not only with the names of rulers, but also with nicknames, expressions or symbols.
But regardless of the interpretation the number 666 of the beast is a powerful occult symbol which is often used in Satanism in various rituals, because it is not associated with pagan gods and does not come from ancient symbols, but is a direct reference to the Antichrist.
The Seal of Satan
Lucifer's Seal, or as it is also called, Satan's Seal, is also not a borrowing from other occult practices and is directly related to Satanism. The Seal of Satan looks like an inverted pentagram with the upper two rays extended upwards, and the lower ones crossed by the Latin letter V, which has smoothly curved legs.
Lucifer's Seal
With this symbol it is possible to subdue the most powerful demons and learn the mysteries. It is also used for initiation into occult communities and groups, which became popular towards the end of the 19th century.
The Serpent
In the Bible, the image of Satan and the serpent tempter are identical, in the very beginning of the Old Testament Satan appears as a serpent before Eve and encourages her to taste the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. Now the image of the serpent can often be found in satanic rituals and practices. It is believed that he symbolizes expanded knowledge, wisdom, and gives the person using this sign, intelligence and awareness.
Ujjat
Many Kabbalistic signs are also among the symbols of Satanism, such as the ujat (ujat, uojat, ouajit), perhaps one of the oldest occult Egyptian symbols found in the excavations of ancient tombs.
Satanism uses a modification of this symbol, depicted as a half-closed eye with a diamond-shaped tear beneath it. It is identified with the all-seeing eye: "the devil sees everything, even if it doesn't seem so.
Goat's head
Baphomet, who has the head of a goat, is an astral deity directly associated with Satanism. In the Tarot cards, Satan is depicted exactly as Baphomet, that is, with the head of a goat. During the Crusades, many Templars were accused of worshiping Baphomet.
A direct connection with Satanism arose after Anton Shandor LaVey, founder of the Church of Satan, made the head of a goat inscribed in a pentagram the symbol of his church. Nevertheless, this symbol was often used in magic and connection with the supernatural.
The Cursed Number 13
The mysticism of numbers has long permeated our lives, becoming an integral part of it. This also applies to the number 13, which has become one of the symbols of the evil spirit.
According to one of the versions, it was on the 13th day that the serpent provoked Eve to taste the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. A belief in the bad magical power of this number is often confirmed by misfortunes that fall on those who in one way or another are associated with the fateful number.
Occultists and Satanists could not but take advantage of such a powerful destructive force, so very soon the number 13 became one of the attributes in carrying out various rites and rituals.
What does Satan look like?
He has many images, however, the main theme for the tattoo of Satan is considered a humanoid creature with red skin, horns, hooves, tail sharpened into a trident.
Sometimes depicted as a goat on the basis of a human body and large wings. A popular image in the form of a giant dragon with curved horns and large wings is often used.
Cult of Satan
Among the many Satanic cults, Anton LaVey's Temple of Satan stands out. He teaches his followers to make the right choices in life. However, it does not associate its vision of Satan with biblical dogma. Common sense, compassion for one's fellow man, and benevolence are encouraged.
However, Satan is not a good character according to Anton LaVey - he is different because he is opposed to tyranny and power over people. This group of people gained notoriety after confronting the Baptists of the Westboro congregation. In addition, the Satanic Temple cult supports the ideas of the LGBT community and has erected a statue of Baphomet on the Detroit campus. It is believed to be one of Satan's ancient names and images.
In addition, the theme is prominently featured in the television series American Horror Story.
Meaning of the Satan tattoo
The primary meaning is considered a denial of the power of God and his commandments. But it expresses the dark side of the individual, the indulgence of vicious impulses. It may signify remorse for a serious sin or a willingness to commit one.
Satan tattoo can be depicted full-length or with only a face, which is represented by red skin, a distorted smile and horns. Consider other options with the disclosure of interpretation:
- The battle between angel and devil demonstrates the struggle of evil and good within the soul of the host. On which of them is ready to deliver the decisive blow, it is possible to conclude what a person is more inclined to. But most often the picture depicts the equal forces of the parties;
- Sketch depicting the devil in the image of an attractive girl presented in a sexy red outfit with the presence of black hues and the corresponding position means cunning or guile of the man. A girl such a mark warns of insidiousness and difficult character of the owner;
- The cartoon version of Satan tattoo does not carry a mythical seal or symbolism. All she shows is a cheerful character based on an acceptance of her essence. It is portrayed in a simple way with cute and harmless exterior features. Usually the master draws on a cartoon character. More often appears on the female body, as men are impressed with the more serious images of the devil.
To find your drawing, will have to look through a lot of photos from the network or catalogs tattooist. Usually the subconscious itself suddenly reacts to the appropriate image.
From the contrary
Before monotheism, the Mediterranean world was dominated by cults of divine couples whose rituals ritually reproduced the act of creating the world by combining the male and female originals personified in specific deities. In the Phoenicians it was the cult of Baal and Astarte. The priests in the temples reproduced their conjugal union. The rites were orgiastic (including same-sex sexual relations), sometimes accompanied by self-mutilation (beheading) and human sacrifices.
Jewish monotheism from the time of Abraham was formed as a sharp antithesis to such cults. And the rejection was so serious that when the ruler Moses saw that some of his people had returned to the cults of Baal (the Golden Calf), many were executed for it.
Therefore, some elements of these ancient cults became associated with evil in Jewish and later Christian times. Since the ancient rites assumed the presence of a divine conjugal couple (the Creator Father and the Great Mother), and monotheism excluded the feminine original from theology and worship, some attributes of the Creator Father and all attributes of the Great Mother were relegated to the realm of associations with evil and immorality.
Some of the ancient attributes of the Creator Father that were associated with evil:
- Phallus. Pagan cults inherited explicit sexual symbolism from ancient rites. Orgy and temple prostitution were condemned. Together with them, the main symbols of these rites were "condemned" as well.
- Fire. The Phoenicians and other peoples of the Mediterranean sacrificed people (including children and the elderly) by giving them up to fire. Thus fire, one of the main ancient symbols of the Father-Creator, took on a negative connotation with the monotheists and "descended" into hell, which in turn was the "brother" of the Greek kingdom of Hades, in which there was no fire, but it was dark and damp like a normal mountain cave
- Horns. Ancient people chose animals as their "icon" of deity. For the Creator Father they chose the largest and strongest animals, which included the cave bear, the giant deer, and the bull. The use of large horned animals solidified the treatment of horns in general (of any animal) as an attribute of the deity. As Baal as an idol had a form of a bull (or a bull-man), the horns as an ancient divine attribute also moved to the category of "evil" symbols through condemnation of the cult of Baal.
The above attributes of the ancient Father-Creator and all attributes of the Great Mother (female organs, dungeon, cave, snake, serpent, reptile, dragon, darkness, night, moon, etc.) moved into the "evil" and "immoral" area and combined with images of "Satan" and "devil".
When monotheistic religions (Christianity and Judaism) began to collapse in the West, occult heresies and various forms of neo-paganism emerged from the underground, some of which used the image of Satan the devil in their practices.
