Modern tattoo ink is a safe composition that provides high contrast and durability of the applied image. If earlier coloring pigments for tattoos were created from metal oxides and chemical additives that increase brightness and resistance to fading, today the composition of tattoo ink is safe for humans. Mixing pigments allows you to get original shades and improve the properties of the dyes.
How to choose a tattoo ink
Pay attention to the type of pigments:
- Inorganic. Such compositions are made from oxides, metal dioxides. Often artificial substances are diluted with organics - soot, turmeric, ochre - to get a wider palette of colors. When choosing an inorganic dye, remember that it is harmful to health and can cause allergic reactions.
- Organic. This category includes soot, iron and chromium oxides, ochre, turmeric - environmentally friendly substances that are completely safe for health. Shades can be both saturated and muted. The only disadvantage of organic pigments is that they are poorly crushed, which makes it difficult to obtain a uniform color.
Auxiliary substances:
- Diluents. These include ethyl alcohol, water, listerine, propylene glycol, glycerin, sorbitol. Diluents increase the viscosity of the final product and help it to distribute better in the skin layers. It is not recommended to choose a paint with a high alcohol content, otherwise it will cause skin irritation. Masters often use sorbitol as a solvent - it is similar in effect to glycerin, but unlike it helps to get a high concentration of dye. It does not form a greasy film, which prevents deep penetration of the composition.
- Additives. This category includes thickeners, preservatives. They are used to reduce viscosity, extend the shelf life of the paint.
When choosing a product, refuse self-made formulations.
Self-mixing paint lacks the necessary sterility, which leads to all sorts of infections. In addition, homemade compound does not keep for long. Using an expired product provokes irritations and other allergic reactions. While self-mixing all ingredients are added "by eye", the paint is of poor quality - viscous or spreading on the skin.
Popular colors of tattoo ink
Black pigment is the most in demand, it is an essential material for applying classic tattoos. When choosing paint for lettering, outline drawings and ornaments, you need to pay attention to the following characteristics:
- non-toxicity;
- hypoallergenic;
- Saturation and durability.
The black pigment for tattoos is divided on means for application of a contour (designated by "line") and procreation. Also on sale are universal compositions that combine the two options.
For artistic tattoos a colored compound is used. The outline is done in gray or black and the filling is done in orange, yellow, light red, blue and green. Dyes are strictly controlled for safety and quality.
Organic dyes
Plant compositions are characterized by high cost, short life. "Wears" the tattoo about a year, then begins to fade. In addition, organic pigments are not completely soluble, so after application, the picture can be blurred. In the sun, the paint often changes its original color.
The advantages of organic are safety and easy removal from the skin, if necessary.

Additional Information:
Once you have chosen a design, redraw it or print it out. Cut it out and place it on your chest, twirl it around and see if it looks good on you. Ask your loved ones for their opinion and remember that when you ink the tattoo with neon pigment, with the appropriate color, the tattoo will look much brighter, more saturated.
The UV pigment consists of pure distilled water and a synthetic polymer PMMA, used in medicine and therefore safe for humans. It has been specifically designed to hold the glow of materials for as long as possible, so combined with the "glow powder", you get the perfect composition of fluorescent paint for tattoos. The medics say that this composition is hypoallergenic, but we, in any case, always recommend testing the paint to avoid unwanted reactions.
We are in favor of safe and time-tested pigments, which we always have in stock at Shoptattoo.
Insects, flowers and ornaments are especially popular among the female clientele of tattoo parlors. Reflective paint and paint glow in the dark? Because of the high cost, many can not afford a large glow tattoo, so usually the compositions are small in size. On a slender female body, they look very feminine and coquettish.
The most popular places for applying luminous tattoos are the arms, legs, neck, back.
Luminous or fluorescent tattoos differ from ordinary tattoos only in the fact that they are visible under ultraviolet light. These drawings look very impressive in the dark, but before you transfer the image to the skin, you should find a good salon. This is very important, because the fluorescent tattoo is applied with a special paint, which is doubly difficult to work with.
Synthetic tattoo paints
The products penetrate deeply into the skin, making it difficult to further reduce the pattern.
Often synthetic formulations use mineral pigments - pure zinc and iron oxides.
Substances help obtain saturated colors, and are economical in price due to their high concentration. In addition, the pigments do not react with the fat and lymphatic cells, so the picture does not blur.
Dynamic Colors (15 ml)
The palette is made up of 28 vibrant colors. The color is liquid and easy to apply under the skin. The exception is Non Mixing Heavy White (HWD-1). It is a thick and dense dye, for its competent use you need experience. The Black Dynamic (BLK) shade is especially popular - it is ideal for contouring, it is dense, without gaps. On sale there are 15, 30, 60 and 240 ml. bottles.
If you follow the rules of application, tattoo mascara will not bleed. The final result will be 50% dependent on the care. If you do not tear off the film and regularly treat wounds with ointments for tissue repair, the pigment will not fall out, it will remain under the skin as a dense layer, and the healing of wounds will be quick. In the process of wearing the tattoo is deformed, does not fade.

Ultraviolet tattoo - what is it?
Today we want to introduce you to one of the types of tattoos, rapidly gaining popularity among club youth - Blacklight tattoo or in another way ultraviolet (fluorescent) tattoos.
In a short conversation with one of the representatives of this tattoo trend in Ukraine - tattoo artist Anna Onishchenko known under the pseudonym Soma Art, we tried to learn more about this art and its characteristics.
Anna, hello! Tell us a little about yourself and how you came into tattooing.
- Hi! I've been drawing all my life, I've been drawn to it since I was a kid. I painted any surface with any material. In the children's sports camp I drew with marker to people "tattoo" already for money, apparently this trade really mine. One day, at the age of 15, I asked my friend Roma one of the most trivial questions: "What does your tattoo mean - stars?" Roma answered me that it was wish fulfillment.
He took me to the first tattoo parlor in my life in our city to get a star tattooed on myself. As lame as it may seem, I had wanted one for years up until that point. I drew it to myself with a ballpoint pen at school in the same place where later I had it tattooed. I always asked to have it henna drawn on vacation, so the tattoo was meaningful, even for my age. During the session, I thought, "How great it would be to do tattoos," but I realized that a 15-year-old girl is unlikely to be accepted for training. At that time I had no idea it would turn out this way.
For the next year I went to Toronto, Canada for a month. I went there to study English, for a course, and I visited a tattoo parlor. Then the process of making tattoos again fell into my heart. I returned to Ukraine and at 16 I ordered my first Chinese tattoo kit from Ebay.
Did you know all the technical aspects of tattooing by yourself?
- Yes, at that time there was not so much video material on the Internet. I gathered information on how to get them by going to tattooing myself and asking questions to the masters. I literally tried my hand at guesswork to figure out how to use the transfer medium (which I first tried to transfer with water, and somehow I even succeeded), the needles and how to insert them, which ones to pick, and the technical settings. The pigments from that Chinese kit didn't stay in people for long, the unit and the pedal broke very quickly, but then I had already tasted the joy of trying to do my first tattoos, and I got excited about it. For free, on my poor and willing friends, I did partak after partak. Then I raised the money and switched to bilder equipment, learned about the right brands of paints, began to draw sketches in certain styles.
During 4 years I took a lot of breaks for a variety of reasons. The development was long, I could not decide on the style, I wanted to invent my own, to bring something new to the tattoo culture. I participated in tattoo conventions and attended them as a guest, communicated a lot with our and foreign masters, beat tattoos in all styles, trying to master each of them. And even then I did not consider myself a tattoo master, I just liked doing it. Tattooing became my life, and the path lined under my feet as I walked.
How did you come to fluorescent tattooing?
- Even at the very beginning of my practice, I came across pictures online of fluorescent tattoos, but it didn't seem real to me. I could not believe my eyes and did not focus on them. Later on, I started to get attracted to the ultraviolet movement, all sorts of Goa trance festivals. And along with them came lamps and fluorescent-painted canvases. The idea of doing these kinds of tattoos started to sit in my head. I started doing these kinds of paintings and sketches. I began to read about fluorescence in nature, in stones, in sea creatures, I began to study all possible information on this subject.
Then the "Coco's Secret" cartoon came out, in which animals from the afterlife were painted with fluorescent, and then I realized that everything is a sign, it's time. I could hardly find where in Ukraine it was possible to order such pigment. It was the American company Skin candy. Waiting for the order, I started to try it. It is really difficult to work with this pigment, it is not possible to paint a big surface, based on its density - it really make more stripes and dots. I have to work with it under normal light and then check the color under ultraviolet. But when I did the first one and shined the UV light on it in the dark, I saw how it burned! I was shocked, shocked, a sense of magic, elated, and even a little bit in tears (laughs).
I found mine. It is exactly what I want. I want light to come out of people. A little later I learned that this style has its own name - Blacklight tattoo. My client, too, was in a shocked state of ecstasy, as was every other client. I eventually found masters around the world, not many of whom work with the same pigment: one American, one Australian and a couple of other guys who are moving in this direction.
Have your clients ever had any questions about the safety of these pigments?
- Of course they have! To develop this style in CIS countries turned out to be extremely difficult, people did not trust that this paint is safe. I had to refer to the foreign masters, to explain to everyone round that pigments are not light-accumulating and do not shine in the dark, but only under an ultraviolet lamp, explain the difference between phosphorus and fluorescence. This paint heals quickly and looks even brighter after healing. A year after healing, it glows just as well. But the range of colors available is quite narrow.
Do you think this type of tattoo is only suitable for clubbers or is it suitable for everyone in general?
- At one tattoo festival I did 4 pieces in different categories, using this paint in style to show the vastness of its use and how it can convey the subtext of an idea. When under normal light we see one meaning of the tattoo and under UV light the tattoo takes on a different meaning. These kinds of tattoos are really done for yourself, not for the clubs. I'm always coming up with new ideas in my head as to how and what to portray using these pigments, And now that all the myths about them are dispelled, I'm hoping for more interest from people who have given a piece of their hearts to tattoo art.
