Totem animal panda | How not to waste energy

A unique and quite rare animal, the Great Panda lives only in China. The cute and touching creature lives in high-altitude areas, in the west and southwest of the Celestial Empire. The largest panda population inhabits the bamboo groves of Sichuan province.

Chinese people give the Great Panda a special place in their culture, because this animal has a friendly character, cute appearance and intellectual development, untypical of representatives of the animal world.

The Great Panda has also played an important role in China's economic and political relations with other countries.

From the history of pandas

panda

The cute black and white inhabitants of bamboo groves have lived in China since time immemorial. In the ancient Chinese manuscripts "Classics of Seas and Rivers" and in the "Book of Songs" the panda is described as a creature with an unusual coloring and from a distance resembling a white fox or bear.

In later Chinese writings, the panda is called the cat bear, the great panda, the bamboo bear.

This good-natured animal was endowed by the ancient Chinese with magical properties and considered a semi-mythical animal. Ancient Chinese medical dictionaries of the III-II centuries B.C. mention magical properties of the panda's skin that helped exorcise evil spirits. The same manuscript also attributes medicinal properties to it.

The black-and-white bear is mentioned not only in manuscripts, it is also the main character in Chinese legends.

Sketch variations

The panda is depicted on the body in many different aspects and variations. This can be either a schematic or a naturalistic image:

  • in the natural state;
  • in clothes, shoes, hats;
  • in a cylinder, bowler hat, glasses, jackets;
  • with natural details - a branch of sakura or eucalyptus, in the forest;
  • with decorations - lines, strokes, patterns, ornaments, flowers, hearts.

The general look of the pattern is done in different techniques: watercolor, thrash polka, geometric, old-school, graphics.

Places for padding can be any, but more often it is an arm - shoulder or wrist. It is possible to look in galleries and in albums of salons such variants as back and lower abdomen, calves, neck, even behind an ear - it is already absolutely a mini version.

In the female version, the picture is cuter and gentler; it emphasizes the character of the wearer. It is often a cheerful, stretching panda, decorated with bows or flowers. If there is any emotion on the face, it is quite evident. Often girls choose mini silhouettes, black and white with colored decorations.

A man wears a panda with a minimal amount of decor, for him more important is the image, the overall look. It can be a panda with glasses and a shirt, a boxer, a rocker, a musician - in general, a stylish animal. Guys have a popular Kung Fu Panda, a well-known cartoon character - he is loved by athletes and goal-oriented people.

An interesting point: some people like the panda to "climb" up their leg or arm. And if you add a grin or sly smile, it adds charm and character to the beast. These people want peace and goodness, so it is worth understanding this desire and not to provoke negative situations.

When did the world learn about pandas

panda

For a long time, the existence of the amazing animals was known only to the inhabitants of Chinese provinces located near the pandas habitat.

By pure chance, a French missionary biologist came to a remote village in Sichuan province. On one of the fences he saw an interesting skin, as if sewn from black and white pieces. The locals told him that it was a one-piece skin and belonged to a living creature. Armand David purchased it and sent the find to the Natural History Museum in Paris. This event, which astonished scientists and the world community, took place in 1869.

The French scientist worked hard to find more evidence of the existence of this animal. Some time after his first find, he managed to buy another skin and skeleton from hunters.

Studying the found material, biologists attributed the animal to the raccoon class and called it the Great Panda. By this time the Lesser Panda had already existed.

Birds

Experts of science of feng shui give a special place to birds. Consider the most popular birds revered by the Chinese:

  10. A parrot, according to feng shui, promises well-being and prosperity.

How the panda became a symbol of China

In ancient Chinese manuscripts written more than 1,500 years ago, the panda is referred to as a symbol of peace. This definition was not chosen by chance. This cute bear, distinguished by a good-natured disposition, is not capable of destroying living creatures.

People of the Celestial Empire treat pandas with great reverence, because nature has created favorable conditions for their life in only one place on earth - their favorite country.

The cute, good-natured Great Panda has been recognized as a national treasure of the Chinese land. In 1985, this animal became the symbol of the People's Republic of China. In honor of such an event, gift coins depicting the panda were issued.

"Panda Diplomacy is what it is.

The big, good-natured black and white bear is not only a symbol of the country to the Chinese, but also an animal that symbolizes friendship and kindness.

After the Chinese Revolution and the change of political regime in the country, the Soviet Union became the first country in the world to recognize a renewed China. Congratulating the Soviet people on the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Great October Revolution, China gave an amazing gift, a male Great Panda - Ping-Ping. Two years later, in the Moscow Zoo there was a female Great Panda - An An An. These animals were perceived by the public not only as a gift, but also as a symbol of strong friendship between the countries. The next to receive such an expensive gift was America. The news of Shin-Sin and Lin-Lin's arrival in Washington went around the world and became a sensation.

Over a period of 25 years (1957-1982), China gave 23 pandas as gifts to 9 countries as a sign of respect and friendship to the governments of different countries.

The animals did not adapt well to the unfamiliar climatic conditions, and after a few short years of life in the new country, they died.

In 1985, the Great Panda officially became a symbol of China. The government of the country decided to stop giving these animals. It was allowed to temporarily send them to other states on the basis of an agreement. It stated that all rights to pandas and their future offspring born outside the homeland belong to China.

In 2021, two new pandas appeared in the Moscow Zoo.

Why are the giant pandas becoming extinct?

Hunting of these unique animals was not banned until the first half of the 20th century. But, Chinese research scientists came to the conclusion that the number of pandas is declining sharply, and they may disappear from the face of the earth. Such conclusions, confirmed by facts, were voiced to the Chinese government. In 1960, the Chinese government imposed restrictive measures concerning the felling of bamboo groves and an official hunting ban was announced. Since then, the killing of pandas in China has been punishable by death.

Biologists in nature reserves and special nurseries began to thoroughly study the life and behavior of black-and-white bears and came to the conclusion that the animals are not very eager to breed, and it all turned out to be the natural laziness.

This specific behavior could have led to the extinction of the entire population, but the Chinese paid attention to the decline in numbers in time, so now pandas are not an endangered species and are designated in the Red Book as a vulnerable animal species.

In China, in the wild, pandas live in the bamboo groves of Sichuan province. This area is protected by the WWF.

The panda badge is a symbol of what

The image of the Great Panda, known worldwide as the symbol of the conservation movement, appeared on the emblem of the World Wide Fund for Nature, immediately after its creation in 1961.

The story of choosing the panda as a symbol began when Peter Scott (one of WWF's founders) saw a sketch of a panda made by his friend Gerald Waterson in London Zoo. Peter was so moved by the good-natured animal that he created a stylized black-and-white portrait of it.

Since then, a black and white bear has been the emblem of the World Wide Fund for Nature.
