Ramos's tattoos are a whole universe. Jesus, Michael Jackson, references to Dali, Banksy and desima

He's even got his fingers stuffed.

This summer, Sergio Ramos spoke frankly with Spanish Esquire: he talked about his love for fashion and confessed that over the years he has gained respect for art. He also said that he matured, and explained how he expresses his life experience in tattoos.

Tattoos are indeed an important part of Ramos' image. The Spaniard has over 40 tattoos (he himself does not remember their exact number), mostly with references to family and soccer. One of the last Sergio devoted his wedding, stuffed unicorn with three stars as a symbol of unity with his wife. The stars are Ramos' three children, Sergio Jr, Marco and Alejandro.

We've put together a quick guide to Ramos' tattoos.

As a youngster, Sergio tattooed a goblin with a ball and angered his father

Ramos started out at the local club of his hometown of Camas, before moving on to Sevilla at the age of 10. At 15, Sergio was sparking in Sevilla's youth teams, around the time he got his first tattoo.

"My first tattoo was located where the wolf is now (on my right shoulder blade - Sports.ru). I covered it up. There was a little goblin with a soccer ball. I was 14 or 15 years old. My dad almost killed me," Ramos recalled in a September documentary from Amazon.

Tattoos dedicated to family

Family is the main place in the life of a soccer player. It is his parents he owes his brilliant career. Sergio was born in the Spanish province of Seville in the family of a manager and a housewife. In the past his father was a professional soccer player, but because of the injury he was forced to leave the sport. Seeing the talent of their son, his parents, despite financial difficulties, sent Sergio to the local soccer club, where he was later noticed by famous coaches. In honor of his beloved parents, the athlete tattooed their initials on his hand. SRM tattoo is the first letters of the name of Ramos, his brother and sister, with whom the athlete has a warm relationship.

The captain of the Spanish soccer team has a common-law wife, journalist Pilar Rubio. The name of his spouse the athlete immortalized on the rib of his right hand. The couple is raising two sons - Sergio and Marco. In honor of the birth of a child, the happy father made a tattoo on the wrist of his left hand in the form of a rose. On the petals are written the date of birth and the name of his beloved child.

Many tattoos are devoted to the family: a letter from daddy, his brother's name and initials, portraits of his mother and sister

Sergio is very attached to his family and dedicates a lot of tattoos to it. He has his sister's name, Miriam, number 4 (under which he performs) and his brother's name, Renee, in big letters on his lower back. Just above is the phrase God Bless My Family.

On the defender's left forearm are portraits of his sister and mother, Paqui. Next to it is the inscription Amor a mi Familia ("Love for My Family"). There are also the initials of his father and mother, between them the lucky (for Ramos) Roman number VII. The footballer has initials of his sister and brother on his middle finger - they also have a tattoo with the player's initials.

On his left thigh, Ramos has a tattoo of a letter from his father, Jose Maria. "I'm proud of you. You will always be in my heart," is how the letter ends. Below is a quill, an inkwell and his father's signature.

Ramos devoted several tattoos to his native Seville. On his left hand, he has a map of Spain, with Seville marked on it. On his right is the Giralda (a landmark and symbol of the city; a quadrangular tower rising above Seville's cathedral).

Legendary tattoos.

However, Ramos is a true knight, as a Spaniard should be. He renewed his contract with his favorite team in 2015, even though they wanted to buy him out for much more money.

And here we see a star as bright as he is profusely tattooed. Why would he need all that - painted skin, a talking back, arms dotted with signs? His tattoos are already legendary!

First there was the goblin with the ball, which the boy had tattooed on his back when he was 14 years old. Rumor has it that his father was angry with Sergio at the time. It is unlikely the footballer wanted to anger his ancestor, because he loves his family: the initials of his sister, dad, grandmother, wife, children, mother and brother on Sergio's body are inscribed with the words: "I will never forget you. He has every reason to thank his parents: the family was not wealthy and sacrificed everything so his son could play sports. Although, as the footballer himself recalls, it all started with banal backyard soccer in the wasteland. Sports were the second passion after bullfighting.

Religious tattoos, amulets, motivational words

On his neck, Ramos has a heart pierced by a dagger with wings, and below that the phrase: A Lion Never Loses Sleep Over The Opinion Of Sheep. On Sergio's right forearm

On his right forearm are the words Hope and Faith.

On his right ribs, the defender recorded the words from the movie "Unconquered" about Nelson Mandela: "Thank God for my invincible spirit. I am the master [of my destiny]." These are lines from a poem by William Henley. Mandela said this poem inspired him during his 27-year imprisonment.

A separate story is the series of religious tattoos. Ramos has a tattoo of Jesus on his left shoulder, with his hands joined in prayer, the Virgin Mary next to him. Above them are clouds, and the phrase in Italian, La Mia Famiglia é Il Mio Sangue ("My Family is My Blood").

Ramos has several crosses printed, two of which are on his ribs.

On the back is a series of biblical motifs. On the right side is a picture of Jesus Christ with his hands folded in prayer, on them a rosary with a cross and stars as pendants. On the left is a tattoo of a heart with a flame pierced by 8 daggers. Below there is the inscription Cicatrices ("Scars"). The heart is a symbol of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, which along with the word Cicatrices symbolizes the scars of healed wounds.

Ramos has a series of tattoos with amulets, among them small ones (horseshoe, clover). Between his shoulder blades, Sergio has a Dreamcatcher tattoo, a Native American amulet that protects the sleeper from evil spirits and disease.

On his right biceps, Ramos tattooed a Middle Eastern protective amulet in the shape of an open palm with five fingers - "Hamsa"

Sports Hall of Fame Alley.

Ramos' shins are the player's Walk of Sporting Fame. There's the stuffed World Cup, won in 2010 in South Africa, as well as four stuffed trophies for winning the Champions League with Real Madrid.

A separate chapter to the very first one. May 24, 2014 will forever remain one of the most important days in history for Real Madrid and its captain. In the Champions League final, Ramos' team destroyed Madrid neighbors Atletico. It was the tenth victory in the most prestigious European Cup for the club, after which the phenomenon had the name "desima". The great victory would not have happened if Sergio Ramos had not saved the team with a header in the 93rd minute, when the score was 0-1 in favor of the opponent. At the end of the season, the defender immortalized the most important goal of his career and, at the same time, the club's 10th Champions League victory on his body.

Decima, Champions League victories and gold at the 2010 World Cup: the main achievements of his career

Ramos left his left and right shins for sporting achievements. In May, amidst rumors of his departure from Real Madrid, Sergio published a video on Instagram with the pathos-like text: "Desima is immortalized. Madridism is under my skin."

The outline is of Ramos' legendary header in the 93rd minute, after which the 2014 UEFA Champions League final with Atletico went into overtime, where the team scored three more goals and won its tenth Champions Cup. On the same foot is fixed each of the four Champions League victories in the format: city of hosting - year of the final.

On the right shin is drawn the World Cup in honor of the victory in 2010 with Spain.

Numbers

Sergio plays as number four. It's a very important number for him. No wonder he has it stamped on his loincloth. Recently, Sergio posted on social networks a photo with updated tattoos and invited fans to guess the meaning. Loyal fans easily solved the mystery of Sergio Ramos' tattoos.

Tattoo on fingers

The first number in the Spanish national team 19 is depicted on the fingers of the defender. This figure may also indicate the age of the player at the time of signing his first contract with the Royal Club.

Also on his fingers there is a number 90 with a plus sign. It signifies the "golden time" for Sergio. He often scores goals in extra time. His most memorable goal was scored by Sergio on 93 minutes of the final of the Champions League against Atletico Madrid. "Real Madrid tied the score and won the long-awaited trophy in extra time.

The numbers 32 and 35 are the numbers under which Sergio played at Sevilla. The footballer considers the number seven to be his lucky number. Its Roman image also became a tattoo of Sergio Ramos.

References to Banksy and Dali, Michael Jackson tattoo

Ramos fixed his love of art and music on his body. In 2015, the Spaniard stuffed an image with pop king Michael Jackson. By the way, in February on the show El Hormiguero Ramos showed a moonwalk.

Over the years, the Spaniard has grown to love art and appears to have his favorite pieces on his left hip: graffiti by street art legend Banksy, where a masked protester throws not a "Molotov cocktail," but a bouquet of flowers. By the way, Sergio has a Banksy painting in his collection, Strawberry Donut, which cost him 50,000 euros. The same foot depicts an elephant from Salvador Dali's "Elephants" painting.

Ramos explained his love of art to Esquire in August: "For me, art is not an investment or a way to decorate the house. Art is an investment in myself that has enriched me as a person. I really wonder why the artist painted the way he did. And it's amazing when a contemporary artist can explain it to you. To see a sculpture by Jaume Plens, a painting by Katz, a work by Manolo Valdes, or a great painting by Banksy... It's a great fortune.

Soccer

In one of his Instagram posts, Ramos wrote under a photo of himself standing with his back to the viewer: The story of my life. And that's really true. The story of his life is closely connected with soccer, so this sport could not help but be reflected on the body of the Real Madrid star. So, on the right shoulder you can see two military caps with the number 15 - the number of the player in the Spanish national team.

After winning the World Championships, Sergio tattooed an image of a cup on his hand.

The tattoos on his fingers have been called the worst. But there's meaning put into them.

In September, bookmaker Compare.bet conducted a survey of 2,000 British sports fans. Respondents did not appreciate Ramos' tattoos on the fingers of his left hand and recognized them as the worst among athletes' tattoos. The top 3 included boxer Mike Tyson and soccer player

.

The tattoos recognized as the worst, Ramos got three years ago in red: 35, 90+, 32, 19.

The first number (35) is a reference to February 1, 2004, his debut for Sevilla at the Riasor. Ramos replaced Francisco Gallardo as number 35 and played 26 minutes. The match ended 0-1, and Ramos will play six more games this season.

"90+" commemorates the last-minute goal against Atlético in the Lisbon Champions League final that would eventually bring the decider.

"32", the number under which Ramos spent his first full season (2004/05) at Sevilla.

"19" is a reference to his debut for the Spanish national team. Sergio made his debut on March 26, 2005 against China (3-0), coming on as a substitute. Four days later, Ramos played for the first time in the starting line-up for the match against Serbia: on his 19th birthday he appeared on the field in the No. 19 shirt.

Ramos has a rose with the number 4 (his number at Real Madrid) tattooed on his left wrist, with his son Marco's name and his date of birth - 14.11.2015 - at the bottom. The rose tattoo symbolizes his love for Marco.

On the fingers of his left hand, Ramos has inscribed the zodiac signs of his loved ones - Aries (Ramos), Scorpio (son Marco), Taurus (wife Pilar Rubio) and Pisces (son Sergio Jr.) - and just above, various symbols: the plus in a circle, the male sign, the star sign and the moon sign. There is also a dot on each of his fingers.

On his right hand, Ramos recorded many important dates and moments. On the top are the date of birth of his son Alejandro (his name is stamped in the middle), the time, the height and weight of the child, a diamond, a bow and arrow, and the phrase "I love you."

***

In a September documentary, Ramos talked about the tattoos in the final episode called "Legacy." Master Rodrigo Galvez (he worked with basketball player Luka Doncic and singer Marc Anthony) tattooed a series of tattoos of childhood, youth and Real Madrid on the player's shin. "These pictures and drawings illustrate my life trajectory," Ramos explained. Apparently, this thesis applies to all the tattoos on the Spaniard's body.

In memory of a friend and other images

But it's not just Christian symbols that adorn him. The Star of David is tattooed in memory of a friend who died right on the soccer field. And on the other hand there's Michael Jackson, whose songs Sergio is partial to.

Sergio also has a wolf and a lion on his torso. The noble predators are legally and freely settled on the back of the born leader and champion, whose strength is not to be doubted.

The trap of dreams was placed exactly in the middle between the animal portraits - all bad things are chased away, all good things are delayed. Ramos's athletic figure also found room for a whole architectural complex, the Giralda, the famous Seville weathervane, the symbol of the province. A Christian and a patriot - that's what Ramos is like under his T-shirt, without which he often poses, to the great delight of female fans.

Religion or beautiful drawing

On the arm of a soccer player there is a tattoo that resembles a cross. It consists of clear lines decorated on top with flowing lines. It can speak of several things:

  • The footballer has expressed his attitude towards religion. The cross is one of the easiest ways for other people to signify their religion;
  • Given that the cross in many countries is a kind of amulet, it is often applied by individuals in public. Therefore, there is an assumption that the tattoo on such a prominent, not hidden from others place the celebrity made in order not to be subjected to bad influence.
