Tattoo radiation - a full description, sketches, meaning, interesting photo ideas

Consider the meaning of the sign in the tattoo. "Radiation" - is a designation of a radioactive zone, in which it is deadly to be in. Such areas are areas near nuclear power plants, where there was an accident or test sites with ongoing nuclear tests.

History of Appearance

For hundreds of years, the image of a skull and crossed bones was sufficient and necessary to convey the concept of poison. Until we started experimenting with radioactive compounds.
The symbol we usually associate with radiation or radioactive materials was developed in late 1946 by a group of people working at the Radiation Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley. At that time, the negative effects of the phenomenon were just beginning to show themselves so that they could be studied well enough to come up with some kind of warning sign. In fact, the symbol was originally intended only for local use in Berkeley, primarily in the form of hinged signs and stickers.

Nels Garden, future head of the Berkeley Health Chemistry Group, is credited with promoting the symbol, which has since been officially recognized by the U.S. federal government. A letter he wrote describing the origin of the symbol says that many people in the group helped "draw" a sign that would best symbolize the degree of danger, type of activity, etc., but, at the same time, was simple in design.

Initially, the radiation sign was a different color - the background was blue, and the trefoil itself was purple. But later, after experimenting with colors, scientists found that the most noticeable sign was on a yellow background.

Any speculation behind the three 60-degree arcs is just speculation, but the ambiguity of its graphic form seems to reflect the mysterious nature of radiation effects. The yellow radiation sign is more abstract than a simple skull and crossed bones, but no less ominous.

Radiation tattoo: meaning, photo tattoo, sketches

Tattoo with the image of radiation means a warning against danger, a threat, the destruction of nature and all living things, the exploration of the forbidden and unexplored, the attraction to the unknown, the tendency to make spontaneous decisions, the desire to seek something new, the love of collecting, a fan of the work or the computer game "Stalker".

The meaning of the radiation tattoo

The symbol of radiation (radiation danger) is one of the twelve signs, developed and accepted by the world community, which indicate a certain territory with some kind of threat to human life and health.

Externally, the radiation sign is well known and looks like a yellow circle, which is divided into six parts resembling petals or propeller blades, three of which are black. Two of these black sectors look up and one looks down.

According to the first version, the sign of radiation represents the inverted trefoil, which embodies the death of all life. According to the second interpretation, this black-and-yellow sign reminds us of the military banner of the inhabitants of Japan who live on its western islands. A third theory is that this graphic symbol of radiation danger represents the atom with its three types of radiation - Alpha, Beta, and Gamma.

Technique of execution

The stylistic solution depends on the chosen sketch. The most common variants of the stalker tattoo:

  • monsters of the exclusion zone;
  • a sign of radiation;
  • A man in a chemical protection suit with a gas mask or mask on his face;
  • the abbreviation S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Gamers prefer the latter option, while fans of the novel gravitate to the image of the explorer, made in the style of realism. Such a tattoo requires a high artistic talent, which means that the choice of the master should be approached with great responsibility.

Images of monsters and mutants are less common, but they are usually made in the style of thrash-polka, which is characterized by expressiveness, broad strokes, the predominance of black and red. Such compositions look spectacular on a large scale, so the back, arm, shoulder are suitable for the place of application.

The sign of radiation is distinguished by its small size. It can be put on the neck, leg, wrist. Photos of finished work and sketches of tattoos can be seen in the gallery after the article.

The most dangerous and painful places for tattooing

Pain is not the only disadvantage of tattooing. There are several areas on the human body where small bones, muscle fibers, nerve endings and capillaries accumulate. Such places are easily damaged, provoking inflammation and infection.

Therefore, think seriously before getting a tattoo on:

  • Face;
  • Your head;
  • neck;
  • lower extremities;
  • elbows;
  • the inside of the arms.

The most painful places for tattooing are areas with little subcutaneous fat: knees, feet, shins, ribs. Masters guarantee that you will definitely shed a tear (from pain) if you decide to get a tattoo on your temples.

Forms of electromagnetic radiation

Forms of electromagnetic radiation differ only in frequency and wavelength:

  • heat waves;
  • radio waves;
  • Infrared light;
  • visible light;
  • ultraviolet radiation;
  • X-rays;
  • Gamma rays.

Longer and lower frequency waves have less energy than shorter and higher frequency waves (X and gamma rays). Not all electromagnetic (EM) radiation ionizes. Only the high frequency part of the electromagnetic spectrum, which includes X-rays and gamma rays, ionizes.

Signs of radiation and the human psyche

Obviously, the human psyche is peculiar to exaggerate threats. Radiation hazards scare for a long time, it is clear that for the population of the Far East, these fears did not arise out of nothing. Radiation and man have certainly been familiar since the emergence of mankind, relict radiation has always been there, but now the fear of mutations and changes in the genocode under the influence of hidden radiation sources is greater than ever. And not only the grapevine, but also the mass media are strenuously promoting these rumors. It is possible that very soon we will receive data on radiation background along with the weather forecast, and at airports they will stick emblems on passengers' luggage - "radiation-safe".

Ionizing radiation sign

In 2007, the IAEA and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) introduced a new radiation sign to help reduce unnecessary deaths and serious injuries from accidental exposure to large radioactive sources. It now depicts radiating waves, a skull, crossed bones and a running man.

It denotes ionizing radiation and complements the traditional international "Beware of Radiation!" sign. The shamrock, on the other hand, has no intuitive meaning and is little known to people other than those educated in the field. For example, children do not know what the radiation sign looks like. They perceive the shamrock as a propeller, not realizing the danger threatening them.

The radiation sign pictured is intended to warn anyone, anywhere about the potential danger from approaching a source of ionizing radiation.

The new symbol has been tested with various populations. It was shown to people of all ages and backgrounds. Men and women were shown a picture of the radiation sign to make sure that its meaning, "danger - stay away," was absolutely clear and understandable to all.

So. The new radiation sign, designed by human factors experts, graphic artists and radiation protection experts, was tested by the Gallup Institute with a total of 1,650 people from around the world.

Who is suitable for this tattoo

Most often such a tattoo is found in people who are engaged in extreme sports, love risks and danger, their entertainment often borders on death, for which others and condemn ectremals. The main feature of such people is a desire for thrills, without which they do not see their life.

These people consciously take risks, create life-threatening situations, and enjoy conquering their fears. Extremes are not created for the measured life of ordinary people, they vitally need to constantly take risks and get rushes of adrenaline.There is also a version that the owners of tattoos with the sign of radiation bring dangerous situations not only in their lives, but also in the lives of others. Often these people are characterized by an unbalanced character, frequent mood swings and strange behavior.

In a state of aggression, they can commit a rash act that will harm people close to them. They also often perceive any action as an insult and disrespect. Wear a picture with a sign of radiation will be a literal warning to stay away from them and to be constantly on the alert.

The tattoo with this image often becomes a symbol of the internal desire for the unknown and the desire to learn the mystery of the modern world. Often people who have decided on such a tattoo, do not want to put up with the patterns of society and try to resist them.

One of the characteristics of the owners of the sign of radiation is irascibility and violent mood swings. At the same time under the influence of strong emotions they may perform strange and sometimes ill-considered actions. Often they are called the dreamer, because they can fully immerse themselves in their own world.

Surprisingly, the choice of this tattoo means the inner attraction of a person to collecting things. They usually collect some strange, bright and extraordinary objects with mystical meaning (stones of ancient buildings, amulets and amulets of witches and sorcerers).Sometimes such a body image is chosen not because of its hidden meaning, but out of love for the popular game "Stalker" or the book of the same name, the action of which unfolds on the territory of Chernobyl.

Tattoo with a sign of radiation danger should be chosen for a body painting only by those people who feel and understand that the meaning of this image fully reflects their inner world and mood. Otherwise, this picture will depress you and with its negative energy will bring unhappiness and suffering to your home.

Placement of the new sign

The symbol is for IAEA Category 1, 2, and 3 sources that are identified as dangerous sources that can cause death or serious injury, including food irradiators, teletherapy units for cancer treatment, and industrial radiography devices.

The symbol is placed on the device containing the source as a warning that the device must not be removed or approached. It will not be visible during normal use, only if someone tries to disassemble the device. It is also not possible to find the symbol on building doors or on shipping bags or containers.

If you are both eager and impatient.

If you're obsessed with the idea of tattooing, and you can't sleep at night, dreaming of beautifying your body, go to the professional tattoo parlor. Before you make a drawing, ask about the quality of the paints used and the experience of the master. One or two tattoos will not harm your health. Just don't become addicted to the art, and don't start stuffing insignia on your face.

Project Manager. Disclamer: the author's opinion may not coincide with that of the readers.

That is not to say that this problem has been realized only now. During the twentieth century mankind was faced with a number of new threats that had to be marked somehow - and even then specialists were thinking about how to make these symbols clear and understandable to everyone. In 1966, when Dow Chemicals started thinking about labeling biohazard sample containers, it was discovered that the existing signs were totally inadequate.

First, each agency used a different version: the U.S. Army used a blue inverted triangle, the Navy a pink rectangle, the Post Office a snake wrapped around a caduceus wand. There was no consistency, and besides, the symbols themselves are not catchy, and their warning nature is unclear at first glance. Finally, the snake and rod could easily be confused with the symbol of medicine - two snakes around the caduceus.

All this made it possible to formulate six criteria, which had to be met by the future biohazard sign. The symbol had to be: catchy (to attract attention), unique (not reminiscent of another symbol), memorable, easy to draw, with circular symmetry (so as not to depend on the correct orientation of the picture) and understandable to everyone.

Under the guidance of Dow Chemicals employee Charles Baldwin, sketches were selected and tested for two key criteria - relevance and memorability. The symbol should not be associated with anything already familiar and should be remembered at a later encounter. Experimenting on some 300 volunteers, Baldwin selected the best of the six - the one we know perfectly well now.

All of these issues are far from theoretical. By burying radioactive waste that must be isolated for tens or hundreds of thousands of years, it is hard to hope that we will be able to maintain and protect it all that time. There is no human institution that has lasted that long. Egyptian kingdoms stood for several thousand years, and even institutions as ancient as the Catholic Church or Judaism trace their history back only a couple of millennia.

The challenge, therefore, is to design structures that are 100 percent secure and reliable, and to ward off the occasional visitor, perhaps unfamiliar with the invisible, intangible dangers of radiation. The Egyptian pharaohs did not succeed: despite the abundance of menacing symbols and cursing inscriptions, most of their tombs were looted by people who did not understand hieroglyphics and had long forgotten the words of old curses.

Work on this subject has been conducted by the U.S. Department of Energy since at least the early 1980s, when the Human Interference Task Force (HITF) was formed. In 1990 its representatives - geologists, linguists, astrophysicists, architects and even artists and writers - visited the WIPP (Waste Isolation Pilot Plant) in New Mexico. This is the main long-term radioactive waste disposal facility in the United States, which, according to the builders' calculations, should last about 10,000 years.

Warning signs and hazard symbols have been developed in order to most effectively warn people of the dangers posed by various materials or facilities.

Visual meaning of the sign

It is interesting that usually danger signs are classic triangles in shape with some kind of image inside. According to Russian GOST, this sign is a warning sign. Poison and radiation signs are depicted in 9 out of 10 cases on a square base.

The radiation sign itself is a circle divided into 6 sectors. Three of them are black. Two of the black petal sectors point upward, one downward. So what does the sign itself mean? There are two versions. The first is the inverted trefoil as a symbol of the death of nature, the second, more cynical, - the sign is similar to the battle flag of the Japanese living in the west of the island empire. By the way, the resemblance of the radiation sign to the symbol of the Mitsubishi automobile concern is surprising. But inverted.

The meaning of the tattoo radiation

The radiation (radiation hazard) symbol is one of twelve signs developed and adopted by the world community that indicate a specific area with some type of threat to human life and health.

Externally, the radiation sign is well known and looks like a yellow circle, which is divided into six parts resembling petals or propeller blades, three of which are black. Two of these black sectors look up and one looks down.

According to the first version, the sign of radiation represents an inverted trefoil, which embodies the death of all life. According to the second interpretation, this black and yellow sign resembles the military banner of the inhabitants of Japan, who live on its western islands. There is also a third version that this graphic symbol of radiation danger represents the atom with its three types of radiation - Alpha, Beta and Gamma.

Despite the seemingly positive yellow color in the background of the sign, this circle does not evoke any positive emotions in humans, including when applied to the body as a tattoo. Even nature has created such a combination of colors as a clear signal of danger, as evidenced by a similar bright coloring of poisonous insects and snakes, which by their appearance as if warned to stay away from them.

Totally different appears meaning tattoos with the image of radiation, if its owner is a sign and is a true fan of such a fascinating computer games like "Stalker". The idea of the creators is that the main character in the story becomes a resident of a new era - the world that survived after the Chernobyl disaster, in which there were global transformations. The player becomes a stalker, i.e. a person whose occupation is the study and development of previously forbidden unexplored territories, who must find certain objects and anomalies located in the exclusion zone, i.e. on radioactive terrain.

If the owner of the tattoo applies the sign of radiation danger as a symbol of "Stalker", then the image will have the following meanings.

The first is an irrepressible craving for the unknown, the unknown. This interpretation is close to a person who can often make rash decisions and seeks to constantly look for something new. The bearer of such a tattoo does not get to sit in one place without doing something, he is always in search of the best.

The second is a passion for collecting. Often fans of games or works with a storyline like "Stalker", seriously keen on collecting strange and unusual in their opinion things.

The third and most trivial thing is a sign of love for a game or book. This is mainly the meaning of the tattoo put fans of "Stalker" on the verge of fanaticism, but such are rare.

The sign of radiation means that the territory in which it is located is radioactive, and to be on it fatally dangerous. This symbol is located in areas with ionizing radiation. Examples of such areas could be the vicinity of nuclear plants where an accident occurred. As a tattoo, the sign of radiation can have different meanings, depending on what the wearer wanted to communicate to those around him.

Tattoo of the zodiac sign Aries

The symbol on the body that denotes the sign of Aries carries a masculine energy. People born under it are characterized by activity, courage and an abundance of vitality.

Those who tattoo the sign of Aries on the body may seek to demonstrate their uniqueness and originality. It is also enough for someone to emphasize his belonging to this sign of the zodiac in this way. Others are trying to signify their willingness to confront obstacles. From a certain point of view, the Aries symbol is the sign of a winner. Such people are willing to come to the rescue and demonstrate responsiveness. Among all the interpretations of this and other tattoos, the main thing is only the meaning that is put in the picture of its owner.

Tattoo of the zodiac sign Gemini

You can often find an image of Gemini in the form of two identical faces. For clarity, it is recommended to complement the pattern with zodiacal signs.

Gemini are most often vulnerable and romantic. They tend to change their minds quickly and often and make spontaneous decisions. You can choose a realistic image of twins, the inscription Gemini or two thick, connected to each other crossbars, columns, similar to the Roman 2.

The image of the symbol can have a double meaning. It simultaneously means the duplicity of a person and the harmony of character. Some prefer to think that the symbol in the form of two columns represents the gateway to the world of self-discovery.

Snake tattoo for the underworld

The snake is in high demand among successful thieves in the law. Representatives of the criminal world put on their body a snake tattoo with a skull or dagger (usually the reptile has its body around the instrument in a tight ring). Such a drawing is not uncommon for senior members of the thieves' hierarchy.

The snake in the crown is a symbol of the wisdom of the criminal laws, and if next to the animal depicts an apple (the snake wraps around the fruit), then this tattoo may be associated with temptation (implying cooperation with the authorities). At the same time, the snake can be an instigator of blood feud.

Such drawings are used by hooligans in the zone, who have a particular cruelty and a long record.

Of course, such a tattoo does not always carry a specific message, but only warns the supporters of law and order about the danger of this person.

Are there any benefits?

Scientists from Alabama claim that tattoos improve immune status. It turns out that the body of tattooed people fights faster against any infection. Experts performed saliva sampling of respondents to detect the concentration of immunoglobulin A and cortisol - immune agents.

By the way, if you sweat a lot, tattoos are just right for you! Researchers from Michigan found that sweating on tattooed areas of the body is reduced by half.

Study leader M. Lutkemeyer explains that tattoos affect both perspiration and thermoregulation. If you cover your body completely with tattoos, you're bound to get heat stroke if you're exposed to the sun for long periods of time. This is due to the inadequate response of the tattooed body to overheating.

How do you protect yourself from excessive doses of radiation?

It's easier to protect yourself from external sources. An ordinary cardboard sheet will keep out alpha particles. Beta radiation does not penetrate glass. A thick lead sheet or concrete wall can "cover" against gamma rays.

The worst situation is with internal exposure, when the source is inside the body, getting there, for example, after inhaling radioactive dust or having dinner with cesium "flavored" mushrooms. In this case, the consequences of exposure are much more serious.

The best protection against household ionizing radiation is to detect its sources in time. You can do that with household dosimeters RADEX. With these devices at hand, life is much safer: at any time you can test anything for radiation contamination.

Monitor with a radioactivity meter your food, check the water and the air you breathe, and you will create a reliable barrier to the entry of microscopic harmful particles.

The Underground

Interestingly, for advanced youth, these signs have become part of club culture. Many nightlife establishments mark cocktails, private areas, and even bathrooms with this sign. All would be well, the psyche of the younger generation has seen more than that. Young people gladly modernize the sign of radiation, its photo in the gas, oil or other fashionable style can be seen in various design projects. But then again, remember the old anecdote about the boy and the wolf that attacked him... If the sign is used many times in a safe situation, the mind can ignore it in a dangerous situation.

Hopefully our hipsters and ravers won't be looking for atomic bomb shelters anytime soon or confusing them with smoking rooms, but some government oversight of the misuse of this sign must be present.

General warning symbol.

On roadside warning signs , the exclamation point sign is often used to call attention to generic warning of danger, danger and surprise. In Europe, this type of sign is used if there are no more specific signs to indicate a particular danger. When used for road signs, it is accompanied by an additional sign describing the danger, usually mounted under the exclamation point.

This symbol is also more widely used for general use in many other non-traffic related contexts. It often appears on dangerous equipment or in instruction manuals to call attention to precautions when a more specific warning symbol is not available.
